I still remember the first time that I saw a Sierra On-Line game. I was maybe 8 or 9 and we were having a Christmas party at a distant cousin's house. They had an Apple computer and were showing us King's Quest I. We had a computer at our house at the time, and I used them at school fairly regularly, but seeing King's Quest made a significant impression on me at the time. Before that, I only thought of computers as working machines, meaning I thought that they were mostly glorified typewriters. I was more interested in playing games on the Atari. What really amazed me about King's Quest was the user interaction. For much of my childhood, we had Sierra On-Line games around the house, including all of the King's Quest games, the Space Quest games, the Police Quest games and even a Leisure Suit Larry game or two. :) I actually still have most of these games now.
I've recently been reading the book Hackers by Steven Levy, and Ken and Roberta Williams and the start of Sierra On-Line was mentioned. I was reminiscing and knew that they had sold Sierra several years back, so I thought that I'd do a search to see what they were up to nowadays. It turns out that they're not up to a whole lot! Remember Peter from Office Space and his dream of doing absolutely nothing? Turns out, Ken and Roberta Williams are living it!
